Holy Mushroom's Cave
The Idea of mushrooms came into my mind, I think, after I watched Avatar 2. When I saw those beautiful foliage like giant trees, small mushroom-like grass, people, all inspired me to reconsider my project and make a much better scene with impressive light

At the beginning of the workshop, I started to gather as much as reference as I can and put them together in a categories so I can look at them. in this reference board, I collected foliage that I might use in my scene.

also, I gather rock references as well, when it comes to rocks, I always get excited and try to gather all the interesting rock shapes and color in one place so I can study them better and understand how they are created.

for this reference board, I tried to find concepts and painting that shows the man made columns and structure that can go well with the mountain composition.

before starting the project, it is necessary to write down all the elements that are going to be used in the scene from props in different level and materials as well.

I used Zbrush to sculpt the 180 degree rock that I was able to use inside Unreal in different size and position and it stood really well in the scene. almost all the mountain was created by this rock and then I used the smaller rocks for filler.

These two blockout are the early stages of my scene and I was struggling to find the right composition and shape, eventually it goes down to smaller portion of the scene which these rocks supported it.

Holy Mushroom's Cave

I love nature and I always wanted to create more organic pieces in my artworks. Creating rocks, landscapes and foliage are always interesting for me and this was the opportunity to make something unique and out of the ordinary. I also took the opportunity to join the workshop from CGMA because I knew that I can learn a lot from a mentor who has been in the industry for years and worked on the great title “Last of Us” series at Naughty Dog.

Thanks to Anthony Vaccaro for all the great feedback and mentorship for this workshop.
